Silk Filature

A Silk Filature is for reeling silk from cocoons.  The silk culture began at Ebenezer in 1736 when each Salzburger was presented with a white mulberry tree necessary for the silk worms to grow well and to produce the fine cocoons. They were instructed in the art of reeling. The Salzburgers proved to be the most successful silk producers in Georgia, and Ebenezer became known as the “ Silk Capital.”
