Mock Well and Working Pump

A well adjacent to the orphanage was dug in 1738, the best well in the village. Rev. Boltzius considered the “Orphanage Well” as a special gift from God.

This pitcher pump, not typical of the colonial era, is inworking order. It draws fresh water from a shallow aquifer. In order to prime the pump, water must pour into the top while quickly pumping the handle.

Well in front of the Kitchen.
